Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD)

PMDD is an extremely disabling condition leading to marked strain on relationships and can lead to suicidal thoughts in some women. The disorder consists a mixture of mood and bodily disturbances that occur on a cyclical basis, in the last 14 days of the menstrual cycle. Symptoms may start from the onset of menstruation in a young woman’s teens and continue through to the menopause, sometimes causing years of misery for women.

Treatment is often with antidepressant medication, but treatments that suppress ovulation may also prove helpful. In extreme cases removal of the ovaries may be necessary. Mr Emmanuel is available to consult on this troubling issue. Visit gynae.me for further advice.
