Fertility Assessment

This service is for women who wish to know vital information about their general health and fertility, which will help them determine whether there are any major issues related to their fertility. Tests offered can range from basic screening to in-depth depending on a woman's wishes. Following testing, you will be able to discuss the results with an experienced midwife or Mr Emmanuel.

Why undertake a fertility assessment?

There are many reasons why women seek an assessment of their fertility status prior to conceiving at various stages in their life. There may be a family history of fertility problems, a personal history of pelvic infection or endometriosis, concerns about their age to name a few reasons. Whatever the reason, a woman just may want to know her fertility status, so that she is able to plan for the future when the time to have a baby may be more appropriate.

What test are offerred?

This is variable depending on your wishes and what you are able to afford. Naturally, the more aspects of fertility that are screened for, the greater will be the accuracy of testing. Prior to testing, you will have a history taken to determine if there are specific risk factors unique to you.

Basic Screening:  This includes a consultation with a senior midwife experienced in pre-pregnancy maternity care.

Intermediate Screening: This includes a consultation with a senior midwife experienced in pre-pregnancy maternity care.

Advanced Screening:  This includes a consultant gynaecologist consultation with Mr Emmanuel.

Internal pelvic ultrasound: This includes antral follicle count (in combination with AMH), which allows the evaluation of a woman's ovarian reserve – her supply of eggs for the future. If fewer than 10 follicles are seen (on both ovaries combined), a woman is deemed to have diminished ovarian reserve. The ultrasound will also assess for womb lining polyps, fibroids, cysts on the ovary, polycystic ovaries, movement of the ovaries that may affect fertility, swollen fallopian tubes, and general causes of pelvic pain.

Who will discuss my results?

All results will be checked by a consultant gynaecologist, and you will be provided with all of your test results.

The specialist you have chosen will advise you on your fertility status as well as provide advice on any changes that may be required to your lifestyle to improve your health and maximise your fertility potential. They will also discuss with you if any future assistance may be needed to help you conceive.

Should your results require that you need to see the consultant gynaecologist, you will have the option of making your own arrangements. Alternatively, if you have paid for the basic or intermediate package, you will need to make an additional separate appointment, at additional cost, unless you have selected the advanced package.
